Concha Marina — the 1921 home of fashion designer Tomas Maier and businessman Andrew Preston — on Tuesday earned one of the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach’s highest honors. The Robert I. Ballinger Award recognized the historic restoration and renovation the two men undertook at their landmark house in the Estate Section.
Maier bought the house — originally designed by noted society architect Addison Mizner — in 2014 after it had been owned for 20 years by Ivana Trump, President Donald Trump’s first wife. She had bought it three years after their 1991 divorce.
Maier and Preston accepted the award on behalf of their house at a luncheon in The Breakers’ Venetian Ballroom. At their table was architect Richard Sammons of Fairfax, Sammons & Partners, who helped them carry out their vision for the top-to-bottom restoration and renovation.
The project at 102 Jungle Road stretched over four years and rebuilt much of the house, bringing what Sammons described as a cohesive serenity to a structure that had been much altered over the years from Mizner’s original design.
